Local fallback

Download on your computer.

Use the companion when a source blocks cloud servers, needs access from your desktop browser, or when you want the final media written directly to a local folder.

For older Mac computers shown as Intel in About This Mac.

Download Intel

The companion has no separate subscription charge. Website guest, member and Pro allowances still apply.

1. Choose the correct build

Windows

Open Settings → System → About. The installer is intended for current 64-bit Windows systems.

macOS

Open Apple menu → About This Mac. Choose Apple silicon when the Chip field says Apple M1, M2, M3 or later; choose Intel when the Processor field says Intel.

Verify the source before opening a download.

These buttons point to the official KeWangFX/framefetch-downloads GitHub release. This page does not claim a particular version, code-signing certificate, notarisation status or checksum.

2. Install and run

Windows

  1. Download the .exe installer and open it from the browser download list.
  2. Review any Windows security prompt and confirm that the file came from the release link above before continuing.
  3. Start FrameFetch Companion and leave it running while using the website.

macOS

  1. Download the correct .dmg, open it and drag FrameFetch Companion to Applications.
  2. Open the app from Applications. If macOS shows a security warning, confirm the release source before choosing any override available in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
  3. Leave the companion running while using the website.

Return to the FrameFetch app, reload the page and inspect the media link again. A successful local connection changes delivery to the local companion.

3. How the website connects

The companion listens only on your computer at 127.0.0.1:18765. It creates a new local token each time it starts, restricts web requests to trusted FrameFetch origins and receives a short-lived, single-use entitlement ticket from the website.

Your browser passes the source URL and chosen quality to the companion. yt-dlp retrieves the source from your computer and writes the media to the local folder. The completed local media file is not uploaded to FrameFetch cloud storage.

4. Permissions and data choices

Download folder
You choose where local media is saved. The public website cannot directly browse arbitrary folders on your computer.
Network access
The helper needs outbound access to the source URL and local loopback access for the FrameFetch website.
Browser cookies
Optional and off by default. If enabled, yt-dlp reads supported browser cookies locally. Use only an account you control and only where downloading is permitted.
Entitlement check
The website issues a temporary ticket so the helper can apply guest, member or Pro allowances without exposing your account password.

See the Privacy Notice for the full data flow.

5. Update or uninstall

To update, close the companion, use the latest-download button at the top of this page and install it over the existing copy. No automatic-update behaviour is claimed on this page.

Windows uninstall

Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps, find FrameFetch Companion and choose Uninstall.

macOS uninstall

Quit FrameFetch Companion, open Applications and move the app to Trash. Emptying Trash removes the application itself; locally downloaded media remains wherever you saved it.

6. Troubleshooting

The website cannot detect the companion

Confirm the helper is open, reload FrameFetch and retry. Check whether firewall, endpoint security, VPN or proxy software is blocking local port 18765. If necessary, reinstall the latest package.

macOS says the app cannot be opened

Confirm that the file came from the official GitHub release and that you chose the correct Apple silicon or Intel build. Review the exact message in Privacy & Security. Do not bypass a warning when the file source is uncertain.

The helper opens but the source still fails

Test another public media URL, then update to the latest companion. The source may have removed the media, changed its extractor, required login, added DRM or prohibited downloading. The helper cannot guarantee source availability or bypass technical protections.
